Order of Worship
Blessed
are we who delight in the Word of our God.
May
we meditate on the Lord’s Word.
May
we stand in the assembly of those called by God.
May
the Lord watch over the way of the righteous.
Let
us worship the Living God.

1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King, through
eternal ages let his praises ring; glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (In
Unison)
Jesus
Christ, son of the Living God, how many times have we betrayed, abandoned and
denied you? You welcome and forgive us, nonetheless. Let us not be driven away
from you in shame or hide from you fearing full exposure. Welcome us once
again, forgive us and redeem us. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF
PARDON
Christ transforms. Christ redeems and renews. Through Christ’s death and
resurrection, we are a new creation, ready to sing God’s glory and testify to
God’s grace. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen.

LESSON: Mark 1: 12-28
12 And the Spirit immediately drove
him out into the wilderness. 13He was in the wilderness for
forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels
waited on him.
14 Now after John was arrested,
Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15and
saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent,
and believe in the good news.’
16 As Jesus passed along the Sea of
Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake—for
they were fishermen. 17And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me and I
will make you fish for people.’ 18And immediately they left
their nets and followed him. 19As he went a little farther, he
saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending
the nets. 20Immediately he called them; and they left their
father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men, and followed him.
21 They went to Capernaum; and when
the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. 22They
were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and
not as the scribes. 23Just then there was in their synagogue a
man with an unclean spirit, 24and he cried out, ‘What have you
to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you
are, the Holy One of God.’ 25But Jesus rebuked him, saying, ‘Be
silent, and come out of him!’ 26And the unclean spirit,
throwing him into convulsions and crying with a loud voice, came out of
him. 27They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one
another, ‘What is this? A new teaching—with authority! He commands even
the unclean spirits, and they obey him.’ 28At once his fame
began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostle’s Creed)
I believe in God, the Father
almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our
Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered
under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth
on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to
judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic
church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of
the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Humbled
by God’s generosity, let us offer our gifts to God and Christ’s church.
Praise God, from
whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him
above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Risen Savior, responding to your love and grace, we offer our gifts of
time, talent and service. May our offerings feed and tend to your sheep. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Satisfy us in the morning
with your steadfast love, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. (Psalm 90:14)
God, we have questions. We
cannot understand the warring madness of our world, the killing of innocents,
the power grabs, the evil. Have we not learned? Have we not matured as a
people? Can you not intervene to protect the innocent and shelter your people?
We lament the nonsense, the madness, the tragedies of human making. Hear our
cries for help and hope, O God of resurrection.
Satisfy us in the morning
with your steadfast love, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. (Psalm 90:14)
Liberate us, O God, and
deliver us from all that stunts our growth and is indifferent to our
flourishing. May those who encircle us listen well, challenge us justly, and
believe in the potential you planted in us. May our habits and heartaches that
stop us short and dim our light not consume or distort us. May we be willing to
stand exposed before you, Savior God, hiding nothing so we can receive
everything.

with your steadfast love, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. (Psalm 90:14)
Eternal Support, we are
quick to move forward or recall the past. Help us to live fully in today’s
moment, breathing deeply, cherishing life and living, attentive to good news,
the grace of what is possible, the gifts of our friends and neighbors. Grant us
a deep dose of gratitude for the abundance you provide and an observant eye to
all we might be missing. May joy and laughter play in our lives. May we be
surprised daily by the beauty you set before us. May we attend to ourselves and
each other with compassion, empathy and care.
Satisfy us in the morning
with your steadfast love, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. (Psalm 90:14) As the Body
of Christ, hear us now as we pray as Christ taught us,
Our
Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our
debtors. Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory
forever. Amen.
1. Take
time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord; abide in him always, and feed on his
word. Make friends of God's children, help those who are weak, forgetting in
nothing his blessing to seek.
2. Take
time to be holy, the world rushes on; spend much time in secret with Jesus
alone. By looking to Jesus, like him thou shalt be; thy friends in thy conduct
his likeness shall see.
3. Take
time to be holy, let him be thy guide, and run not before him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord, and, looking to Jesus, still trust
in his word.
4. Take
time to be holy, be calm in thy soul, each thought and each motive beneath his
control. Thus led by his spirit to fountains of love, thou soon shalt be fitted
for service above.
